Thank goodness Dale Earnhardt Junior picked #88. Now I just need to add an 8 to my existing tattoo. I won't have to involve a laser...

Rick Ankiel isn't chasing down baseball's most hallowed record, like Barry Bonds, but I'd still say Ankiel got off easy in the court of public opinion after his alleged ties to HGH. Why the double standard? At best, Ankiel was a feel good story nobody wanted to spoil. At worst, the media single out those we don't like. Hey, at least Bonds is real. He never pretends to be anything but a jerk...

My favorite story of the week, the NFL no longer wants cheerleaders warming up in front of the opposing teams players because it's too big of a distraction. Hey, that's strategy!...

My mother recently filled in for me at the Des Moines Playhouse production of Cats. I was in an RV, mom was in my theater seat. She loved it. She even called me at intermission to go on-and-on about how good Cats was. I can't imagine I'd share her passion for people in cat costumes dancing, and she did say the second half wasn't quite as good, but if people in feline make-up make mom happy, I'm all for it...

3:10 to Yuma...that's more like it for me. What a great Western. Russell Crowe gives a wild, charismatic performance, and Christian Bale is even better as a dirt poor rancher who's willing to die if it means being a good father and a good man. The climax delivers the goods. I give it an A. Fans of westerns should not miss this one. My dad loved it too..

I'm watching the Black Donnellys on DVD. How did this Sopranos lite not work? It's good...

I'm glad the new TV season is finally here, though a sub par season of Rescue Me got me through the summer. The best buzz here at NBC is for Chuck. I'll give it a shot and report back...

Big thanks to the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau. These folks now how to make visitors welcome, hence the name, I guess...

Have things gotten so bad in the first 4 weeks of the season that neither Iowa or ISU get reference in the blog??
---
You know times are tough when Nascar takes the first spot and speaking of Nascar and Dale Jr, why is this guy so popular?? He rarely makes the chase and he does not win very many races. I don't understand the popularity of Nascar to begin with but the outright worship of this guy blows my mind.

Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrit! NASCAR and NASCAR fans suck!

Shawn,

I thought everybody might need a break from all the ISU-Iowa talk since that's the exclusive topic on previous post.

Dale Jr. will start winning next year. One of the things that bothers me about NASCAR is winning takes the right crew and car. I always thought if they truly wanted to find out who the best driver is, they'd line up all the "stock" cars and draw numbers. As Harry Hogge says in Days of Thunder, "There's nothing stock about a stock car, Cole". True. Fastest car usually wins.

Thanks.

Hey, what about those Cubs??? Or are you not talking about them just in case you "jinx" them? Sounds like it was a good thing they weren't televised last night.

Thank goodness for the Cardinals tonight. Never thought I'd say that!

Keith, I've just got a few questions for you.

I read a post by an ISU fan stating he thought Wisconsin was overrated. What is your opinion on the matter?

Secondly, is it just me or do you get as good of laugh as I do when Gary and Bryan bicker like two children over ISU and Iowa? It's like I'm reading the writings of two men who have the mental capacity of a 5 year old, but some how muster up enough intelligence to have a vocabulary that maybe of a C average student.

Lastly, in your honest opinion how do you think Iowa will finish the season? Big Ten record, bowl game prediction?

Jeff,

I wouldn't consider myself a "C" student as I was on the President's List during my last two years of college...without even opening a book and, no, I didn't cheat. Good try though.

That's why I talk smack to Bryan on here. It's all for fun. I look to get a laugh out of people. If there is at least one thing I can do to put a smile on a Hawkeye fan's face, so be it, I'll talk all the trash in the world.

Also, what kind of vocabulary am I supposed to use towards an ISU fan? I really don't see any special vocabulary in your post. At any rate, I respect you and your opinions.

Jeff, I have to agree with Gary here. Your vocabulary/grammar isn't exactly outstanding, either.

If a 5 year old can graduate from Iowa State with honors....well, maybe the courses were just too easy. ;)

See, Bryan, we do agree on some things!

Oh yeah Jeff, by the way, check your whole post. I see quite a few simple, elementary grammatical errors there. Heck, in your last paragraph, you even have a fragment. You may want to consider revising that sentence. You played a good game, but better luck next time. The sad thing is, I'm probably younger than you. How does it feel to have someone younger than you point out your mistakes? Give me a break! This is a forum, or comment page, grammar and vocabulary do not matter.

Gary

P.S. I wrote the above post too.

HOW ABOUT THOSE CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How's your mom doing Keith?

Jeff,

I do think Wisconsin is overrated. I'd say the Badgers are a top 20 team right now, not top 10. However, they keep winning... that's the bottom line.

I must say I enjoy hosting the bickering that's going on. I get it 24/7 in my SoundOFF inbox anyway. I am paying attention to my grammar more than usual.

I'm amped about the Cubs. I can't believe it. I left them for dead back in June, but the combination of a pretty good run, and a pretty bad division made it all happen. My mother's excited too. I only wish Andy were here to suffer through all of this and make excuses for his Cardinals.

I'm headed down to Kansas City for one final day of baseball with the boys. (By the way, how 'bout Jeff Clement! Game-winner last night.)

Take care,
Keith
