I still can't believe it. Auburn University, one of the premier football programs in America, just hired a football coach riding a 10-game losing streak.
Anyone can understand why Gene Chizik took a better job for more money, but that doesn't make it right. Chizik broke a lot of promises when he left Ames after just two years to pursue his "dream job" .
I've given my opinion---see "I Think" in the video player---now I want to hear yours. What do you think? Time to sound off with feedback.
Thank you.

Personally, "Goodby to bad rubbish!" I work at ISU and in the past have e-mailed the man twice and sent two DVD's, via Campus Mail, of two games that I thought he'd like to have for his personal use. One DVD was the CY-Hawk classic that we won.(Commercial free, too!) Never got a response from any of this! If this was the way he treated everybody, here's your hat, what's your hurry is how I feel about it!

There is only one coach in the nation that has a chance at winning at Ames.
He's recruited Iowa. He's recruited nationally. And he's won. .680 Winning percentage as a matter of fact.
He's been coach of the year, he's won conference championships. And was 30 seconds away from playing from a national championship.
How come no one is talking about this guy?

(Turner Gill will not come to Ames, sorry Keith)
Iowa St. doesn't need Farley...leave him alone!
Hey, we noticed at least 2 times during the 6:00 show the commercials with Chizik in them. Did someone forget to take those off the air? I know that they were for a good cause, but it was kind of ironic when Chizik said he cared for the people of Iowa!
I'm reminded of the line from Gladiator, "The mob is fickle"...Now some people are calling for Pollards head, which is beyond irrational. In 2 years, Pollard went from a budget of 28-40 million (thanks to the donors), which is commendable. Chizik may have been a factor in raising the money, but Pollard was the architect. He (Pollard) deserves more credit & everyone will love him once I-State starts winning.
I think Chizik got greedy. He wanted more money, more prestige, and more tv time. I think he handled things in a very unprofessional way. There are times when we all say things to keep people happy, but when you tell your boss one minute that you're staying at your job, and 4 hours later it's announced that you're leaving...that's just assinine! Grow up, be a man, and take care of business Mr. Chizik. The Cyclones are lucky to be rid of you.
ISU will survive this. The next coach will have a great pool of young players with game experience and a big chip on their shoulders. If the new coach can eliminate the Fresman mistakes from this year, he could win 5 or 6 games. This may not be Auburn and not Texas, it is however a place where you can win and every now and than pull of an upset of one of the big boys.
Bring back Mac Daddy!!
Good riddance. The man was charged with (as ALL coaches/teachers are) building skills and CHARACTER. His concept of Character is flawed and we don't need him or his ilk passing his lack of committment and leadership on to others here.
In a few weeks we can say, "Chizik is so 2008".
Judging by Jamie Pollards press conferences, it's not hard to see that he's a man in this for the long haul. He seems very dedicated & passionate about Iowa State. Time to move on from Chizik. The only bad decision Jamie made were those god-awful uniforms.
@Melinda, reality check time lady, ISU needs a good coach who will win and win soon. period. Farley is 100x better than Chizik, and Jamie Pollard would be crazy not to at least interview him.
I must say wow to those saying Chizik has no character. He owes no one a reason for leaving. He must do what's best for him and his family, no one else, not fans, players, or universities. Can anyone imagine getting an oppurtunity to take their dream job and turning it down? Perhaps people should stop whining and be happy for the guy, people like Keeler at the DMR have way to much time on their hands, complaining about "character", well it takes a lot of "character" to bad mouth someone you hardly know. This is football for crying out loud, everybody needs to get a grip, there is much bigger things to worry about then this.
Yes it stings, but We (ISU) are better than one coach! raise your heads and show the Nation that this football family Can Do It!!!!
Chizik has no charachter, Iowa State is better without him. He LIED, but really told the truth when he was overheard saying that he "regretted" coming to Iowa. The lie came during his press conference> I can tolerate a lot, but not someone that lies, sorry. Buh bye Chizic!
Jamie Pollard, what a nice job with the fake tears. You might seek one of those acting jobs in Indianola bud! Your broken heart, broken promises, come on, get real. Why dont you move to Auburn as well is you miss him like you are? You have no compassion when you let Dan Mc go. You had no compassion when others were let go at your hands. I cant wait to see the headlines "Jamie Pollard accepts ______, and fills his dream of getting back together with Gene Chizic". I bet its a case of "whats happens in the locker room after hours, stays in the locker room!" Take care JP.
Jaimie Pollard is too busy putting up billboards, curtains and minting coins to hire a quality coach. Now he's crying crocodile tears to divert attention away from his department's abysmal on the field record and hiring busts. Wake up people...Pollard is the problem.
Too bad Pollard didn't take more of a high road and just say "hey, it saved me from having to fire him!"
Jamie looked like he was truly hurt by what happened...almost like he had been stabbed in the heart and hung out to dry...
Huh, I guess now he knows how Mac felt...
Great point Shane.
Difference between Mac and Pollard.... Mac took it like a man and didn't cry like a little bi**h.
Chizik is going to do HORRIBLE at Auburn. His defenses at Iowa State were terrible, he never had a signature coaching style and couldn't impose his coaching strategy on my grandma (and she plays for the Detroit Lions). The SEC will eat him alive. This is the best thing for Iowa State. Now they can look for a good coach, not some big name guy who wants to turn Ames, Iowa into the south. Chizik never belonged in the first place.
