ISU MIA, MC22 strikes again, Ugly Babies

(By Chris Hassel)

Well, it's pretty clear the Cyclones won't be challenging for an NCAA Tournament berth, this season. Iowa State is now 0-2 against the MVC, after losing to UNI, 69-62. It's clear that the Cyclones have much more talent, than the Panthers, but they just don't have the right plan. Half of the time Royce White is bringing the ball up the floor. The other half of the time, he's posting up inside (which is where he should be). UNI didn't have a player to stop White on the post...not many teams do. It's clear, at this point, that Ben Jacobson is a better basketball coach than Fred Hoiberg. He proved it last season, and he proved it again, tonight.

When is MC22 going to step up to the big leagues and upgrade its cameras and signal? I'm not asking for HD, just a clear picture. Please! It's just brutal watching these games. The only moment during the game when the picture was clear, was when the screen went black for 90 seconds.

MC22: Please get new equipment
I watched the first half of the game at home, on my dinner break. My wife walked in and asked me, "What decade is this game from?" She honestly thought it was some classic game from the early 90's.

That being said, I guess it's better than what the Big Ten is doing. The majority of Iowa basketball games have been on BTN.com (and you need a subscription to watch). As a kid, growing up in the late 80's and 90's, I remember every Hawkeye game being on tv. Is this the wave of the future? Games on a computer screen? What are we going to use our thousand-dollar HDTV's for?

Bears quarterback, Jay Cutler, says that he could be out for the rest of the season. The Bears were hoping his broken thumb would heal in time for Cutler to return by the final week of the regular season. If he's done, so are the Bears.

As a Bears fan, I've already conceded the fact that the Packers are going to win their second straight Super Bowl. There's no one better than Aaron Rodgers. In fact, I think he's on his way to becoming (arguably) the best quarterback of all-time. Just typing that makes me want to vomit.

Ed Wilson says the season's first big snowstorm could be on the way. I'm all for a white Christmas, but we're still nearly 4 weeks away!

We had an interesting discussion about ugly babies, today, on the Murph n Andy show. How big of a sin is it to tell someone their baby is hideous? It may just be the worst thing you could ever say to someone. The next time you have a beef with someone, and that person says 'you're fat', 'no one likes you', or 'you can go to hell' ... just fire back with, 'Oh yeah, well at least I don't have a baby that looks like it belongs in a jar of water in some high school anatomy class!"

Sadly, this baby is wearing a men's medium.

I've been running a lot lately --- way more than I've ever run in my life. The problem with running is, it gets boring after a while. I've been able to work my way up to running 5 or 6 miles 3 or 4 times a week. I think my body could do more, but my mind can't keep it going. I've got an iPhone, and a TV...what else can I do to keep my mind occupied?

Making fun of babies now? Class act Keith!

The crack about the baby in the jar was way over the line. Each one of those babies belonged to a mom who more than likely has thought of that child every day since. Each child who isn't what society would call cute was still made in God's image, and you've just encouraged people to make fun of him or her. Grow a filter.

I thought this was Keith Murphy's blog. It is entitled Murphy's Law, so why would it be anyone elses?
Regardless, the baby comment is deplorable!

Analog technology paired with a digital screen is worse than early 70's technology. I listened to the game, but didn't watch it. The BTN did us all a favor and chose not to broadcast lower tier BT preseason games this year. Thanks BTN.

You seriously think losing to a MVC team automaticly destroys a Big 12 teams chances of improving? Or going to tourney (that lets almost evryone in anyhow)? Its not football, Hassel. Not like MVC basketball teams have had any recent success or anything......

jeez people the guy has a right to an opinion even if it's a wrong one. must we be PC at all times? and Bobbi, are you just searching for baby haters or have you ever read this blog before? different guys in the sports staff have been posting in addition to murph for years.

I laughed at the baby in the jar joke guess that makes me a horrible parent.

That baby is ugly. Don't hide your feelings just because it is PC. You tree huggers need to learn how to speak up instead of fearing that you will hurt someones feelings. Ugly people can produce ugly babies. Some ugly babies turn out good. Have you seen baby pictures of the Kardashians? They were butt ugly until their late teens! Good post Chris.

It's a shame that in the recent money grab, the conferences have been able to shut out the locals. With every channel having multiple digital channels now, it's a perfect situation for the local networks to air the ISU and Iowa games on a secondary channel and not even have to tick off the non sports fans by time shifting the network programming. But, unfortunately, with the conferences selling all the non-blockbuster games to Fox Sports Tanzania or ESPN Unwatchable, or the Big Ten network charging for the webcasts, there aren't enough decent games for the local stations to turn a profit by picking up all the non-marquee games.

Sucks, too. KDSM could be the ultimate sports monster, having 17.2 play the Cyclone games and 17.3 play the Hawkeye games.

Just not enough advertising to be sold in UI vs. Campbell or ISU vs. Prairie View.
